Dropping markers during playback

OK, I’ll agree that this is just an idea and certainly not in any way pressing. It might not even be useful to others.

I sometimes use Ardour for analyzing a track. I import a sound file into Ardour, and them press play.
As playback proceeds, I use the key to drop a location marker at various points of interest. When I do this, a small dialog pops up asking for a marker name.

It would be great if there was some way (config option) to skip the naming dialog and just use the provided name (mark?) if dropping a mark during playback. It would save the extra keystroke (enter) to use the default name.

Thoughts?

Look for “Prompt for new marker names”.

TAB is the shortcut to drop a mark in the playhead position. In my case it doesn’t ask for a name.

As @Piergi mentioned there is Preferences > Transport > General > Prompt for new marker names

When enabled, a popup a dialog when a new marker is created to allow its name to be set as it is created.

When disabled no dialog is shown and markers are named “Mark N” (with the number N increasing for each marker), and you can always rename markers by right-clicking on them.
